About the Job
Aircraft mechanics are responsible for carrying out maintenance tasks on an aircraft to any standard specified in the aircraft maintenance data under the supervision of certifying staff. They notify aircraft supervisors of defects or mistakes requiring rectification to re-establish required maintenance standards. Key responsibilities include assisting certifying staff during maintenance, reporting defects, and performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance checks.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the certifying staff: Support the certifying staff during maintenance tasks.
Report defects: Notify the certifying staff of any present defects on the aircraft.
Perform maintenance checks: Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance checks and aircraft servicing tasks under supervision.
Carry out maintenance tasks: Execute maintenance tasks to specified standards under supervision.
Notify supervisors: Inform supervisors of defects or mistakes that need rectification to meet maintenance standards.
Aircraft towing and pushback: Perform aircraft towing and pushback, including ground-to-cockpit communication.
Replenish and service aircraft: Handle fueling, hydraulic fluids, oil, gas, water, toilet sanitary fluid, rain repellant, cleaning, lubrication, drainage, and other servicing operations.
Handle aircraft at arrival and departure: Manage aircraft at arrival and departure, including placing cones, wheel chocks, external walkarounds, and ground-to-cockpit communication.
Adhere to safety precautions: Follow safety precautions and warnings as directed by the manufacturer and the organization’s safety policy.
Maintenance Procedures
Use proper tools: Utilize the proper tools during maintenance as prescribed in the instructions for continued airworthiness and maintain the tools in good condition.
Tool control: Manage tools during maintenance, ensuring their serviceability and location.
Draw and return tools/materials: Obtain required tools/materials/components from technical stores and return them in normal condition or report any damage.
Dispose of expendable items: Dispose of expendable items in designated areas according to health and safety regulations.
Comprehend tasks: Understand tasks before starting any maintenance on the aircraft.
Safety gear: Wear provided safety gear as instructed during maintenance.
